HIKING WITH A HUSKY
THIS WEEKEND WE HEADED OUT TO THE COUNTRY TO ENJOY THE SPRING WEATHER, FRESH AIR AND NEW VEGETATION
WE TOOK THE METROPOLITAN LINE SUBWAY TO CHESHAM IN THE CHILTERN HILLS. FROM THERE WE WALKED 3 HOURS THROUGH WOODS AND FIELDS TO BERKHAMSTED
THE AIR WAS FRAGRANT WITH DEW ON NEW GRASS AND DELICATE BLUEBELLS - LIKE SPRAYING LARIA AFTER A SHOWER
THERE WAS NEW-BORN LIVESTOCK IN THE FIELDS ALONG THE WAY
WE SPENT THE NIGHT IN BERKHAMSTED IN AN 18TH CENTURY COACHING INN (THE VILLAGE IS 1 DAY BY HORSE FROM LONDON)
THE GRAND UNION CANAL THAT CONNECTS LONDON TO BIRMINGHAM RUNS THROUGH THE VILLAGE. THERE IS ONE COOL PUB AFTER ANOTHER ALONG THE CANAL, PERFECT FOR THIRSTY BOAT-PEOPLE AND WALKERS!
ON DAY 2 FROM BERKHAMSTED WE WALKED UP INTO ASHRIDGE WOODS, THE ESTATE OF ‘THE CANAL DUKE’. I SPENT MUCH OF MY CHILDHOOD WALKING HERE WITH DOGS. IT IS LIGHT AND FRAGRANT AT THIS TIME OF YEAR WHEN THE LEAVES ARE JUST STARTING ON THE TREES
